Adults and families with children 4 and up; join a Tenafly Nature Center Environmental Educator to explore the centennial of the extinction of the Passenger Pigeon. See one of the few existing specimens in NJ. Passenger Pigeons were once the most abundant bird on the continent; their numbers were estimated close to 5 billion at their peak.

Within decades, human actions reduced their numbers to zero. On September 1, 1914, the last of the species died. Learn more of their story and construct a Passenger Pigeon totem pole for exhibit in the Nature Center Museum.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held under cover. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
